If you are an emerging advanced technology, life sciences or professional services company or a foreign business looking for a soft landing in the U.S. market, the Business Innovation Network of Montgomery County, Maryland has the perfect place for you.  The Innovation Network business incubators are located throughout Montgomery County adjacent to Washington, D.C.  with its talented workforce and strategic access to the federal and commercial marketplace, all in a sophisticated, diverse community. The Network was founded by the Montgomery County Department of Economic Development in 1999 with the opening of the Shady Grove Innovation Center and specializes in helping young companies realize their potential.  Since its inception the Business Innovation Network has worked with over 250 teams of entrepreneurs and graduated about 100 companies. Over the last 10 years the Network has grown to five business incubation centers that offer the critical combination of highly flexible, modern office and lab space and business support services.

Who We Are

The Business Innovation Network is comprised of five business incubation centers and houses over 160 young companies.  The Network is operated by the Montgomery County Department of Economic Development.

The support of well-functioning business innovation centers in Montgomery County, Maryland is a strong investment in the local and regional economies. Nurturing emerging companies helps build a strong local tax base, creates high quality jobs and makes our community vibrant and prosperous. Our business innovation centers help emerging growth companies develop and grow during the early years when they are most vulnerable.   We also function as a business accelerator helping more established companies to achieve major milestones in technology and financing.

The mission of the Business Innovation Network is to support the development of young growing businesses that have the potential to create jobs in Montgomery County, Maryland and bring new, innovative products to market.  The Business Innovation Network offers local entrepreneurs facilities, services, and an environment in which they can prosper. Our clients include Bio-Technology, Info-Technology, Green-Technology and Professional Service businesses.

A critical part of our program is the provision of management guidance, technical assistance and consulting tailored to young growing companies. We also provide clients access to appropriate rental space and flexible leases, shared business services and equipment, technology support services and assistance in obtaining the financing necessary for company growth.

The Network’s Proven Record of Success

The National Business Incubator Association estimates that, while four out of five new businesses fail within the first five years, 80 percent of those firms cultivated in an incubator remain in business.  Firms located in our Business Innovation Network facilities have an even better track record. Since 1999,  over 100 companies have graduated, adding more than 1,700 jobs to the local economy.
